Years ago, I was driving to a fly fishing destination and noticed a tie-dye t-shirt shop. I kept driving and did so again the next year. Finally on the third year, I stopped in and found the store, a shack really, tended by an aging hippy woman. Her makes the t-shirts and fine t-shirts they are; high quality and well-crafted.
But the real attraction was the aging hippie lady herself, Helen. She was charming and full of unexpected remarks. I remember looking at a map on her wall. The map was full of pins with yellow flags on them. Each pin represented a location where her customers were from. The map was jam packed with pins from my area, the outer suburbs of Washington DC. I remarked, “There are so many pins in the DC area, I don’t know where you will find room for the next one.”
Helen responded, “There is always room for one more pin. That’s the beauty of infinity.”
“Well,” I said struggling for a comeback, “that is quite a concept.” We looked into each other’s eyes and smiled.
This past Friday, I visited the shop and her -in-law, Jesse, told me Helen had died. I was stunned, but managed to say, “I am so sorry to hear that. She was a big part of the t-shirt experience.” And indeed, she was.

Yoga and Sex

I am a fan of the book, “The Science of Yoga” by William Broad, a reporter for the New York Times and long-time yoga enthusiast. The book examines the claims made by yoga and looks for scientific studies that support or refute the claims. One chapter covers sex. Here is a brief summary.
The good news is yoga holds some promise to enhance our level of sexual bliss. Yoga can increase the production of sex hormones and advanced yogis can light up their brains in an orgasmic manner. To Broad, this did not seem to be the case at first glance because an often cited, well known study in 1997 refuted an earlier 1978 study finding yoga could improve our sex lives. However as Broad scratched beyond the surface, he found a problem with the 1997 study. This study looked at the combined effects of yoga and a vegetarian diet. When he examined studies that isolated the effects of yoga alone, testosterone levels increased significantly. The most recent study he cites comes from 2010. In this study, 100 subjects, male and female, aging from their twenties into their fifties, practiced yoga for three months then reported on their sex lives. The subjects broadly reported improvements in desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction. For you yoga fans, the sex improving asanas used in the study were bow, wheel, plow, locust, triangle, seated forward bend, and agni sara.
The chapter also covers the results from MRI brain scans of people who physically simulated themselves to orgasm to those (many of them serious yoga practitioners) who could mentally think themselves off and induce orgasm. The scans of the two groups were much the same. Some of the women who could think themselves off were yoginis who could sustain an orgasmic state for hours at a time.
Of course, HotMatch.com members probably have elevated levels of sex hormones without the help of yoga. If we enhanced those levels even further through yoga, we could become stark ravingly mad with sexual desire. Perhaps many of us are already.

So Bachelor #3 wonders why I didn’t talk to him during the date (see My Date With Barbie in the previous post). Well listen to this. He showed up at my place 2 hours early. He played his bizarre music full blast in the car. He said he would take me to the finest restaurant in Washington DC. We ended up at Ruby Tuesdays. He talked incessantly on his cell phone. And he constantly gazed at his reflection in water glass. He asked why I didn’t wear a tighter dress.
How about it ladies? Have you had a worse date?
